Vehicle Services:

"What Do I Need In Order To Register My Vehicle?"

1. Proof of Ownership (one of the following)

New Vehicle - (must have NVIS card from Dealer)

• Bill of Sale
• Will or letter from a lawyer
• Lease agreement
• Statement of Authority (with acceptable proof of ownership)

Used Vehicle

• Bill of Sale
• Will or letter from a lawyer
• Statutory Declaration for vehicles valued under $1500.00 (must be approved by government rep.)
• Valid Registration from another jurisdiction
• Part 2 of previous Alberta Registration (signed by client)
• Previous Out of Province registration/Bill of Sale
• Out of Province Inspection (completed by a Government Certified Mechanic)

Out of Province Vehicle

• Previous Out of Province registration/Bill of Sale
• Out of Province Inspection (completed by a Government Certified Mechanic)

Trailers

• Bill of Sale/Previous Out of Province registration

What should be included in a "Bill of Sale"?

Date Buyer's Name and Signature
Seller's Name and Signature Vehicle Description (make, model, year and serial number)

2. Proof of Insurance

*Note: An expiry date indicated as "continuous" or "until cancelled" is not acceptable.

What should be included on acceptable insurance documentation?

Name of Insured Vehicle Description
Name of Insurance Agent Name of Insurance Company
Policy or Binder Number Date of Issue
Name of Leasing Co. Expiry Date

3. Acceptable Identification

Driver's Licence
Passport

and any two of the following:

Birth Certificate
Credit Card
Government ID (ie: SIN, Immigration documents)

4. Parental Consent

Required if you are under the age of 18 and have never registered a vehicle before.
Exceptions: Self-Supporting or Married
