Evaluating the Medically At Risk Driver
Objective Assessment of Driving Competence
-
The DriveABLE evaluation has two
components: a Driving Competence Screen and
a Road Evaluation.
-
Effectiveness proven through the validated
research testing of hundreds of patients.
-
DriveABLE evaluations are approved by
Driver Records, Alberta Registries.
-
Until now, clinicians have had little
choice, but make decisions based on best judgement or
educationed opioion.
-
Physicians value the scientific basis of the
DriveABLE evaluation and appreciate the arms-length
advantage for preserving the physician-patient relationship.
-
Procedures reveal and identify driving
errors documented to signal unsafe declines in driving
competence - Competent drivers pass the evaluation.
The Driving Competence Screening is
administered in our office and takes about an hour.
Administered by professional personnel, it consists of a set
of tests assessing memory, judgement, decision making,
attention and motor abilities. The client responds by
touching areas on a screen or by pressing a button.
The Road Evaluation consists of a
standardized drive in a residential and light business
traffic. The evaluation vehicle is an automatic
mid-sized car equipped with a dual brake. Opportunity
to become familiar with the vehicle is given. Our
testing procedures identify and highly weigh driving errors
associated with declining competence to drive. No
penalties are given for errors characteristic of normal,
healthy drivers.
-
The assessment is not covered by Alberta
Health Care. The cost of the assessment is $214.00
plus GST.
-
For further information on the
assessment or for referrals, please call 403-528-4860
and ask for Anne or fax 403-527-7414.

Nuans (Newly Upgraded Automated Name Search). When you
decide to incoporate a company with Alberta Registries, you
are required to do a name search (NUANS). You will receive a 6
page report listing all the names that are identical or
somewhat similiar to the one you requested and have been
registered with Alberta Registries. This will include
incorporated companies, tradenames, partnerships, trademarks.
Once you have run the report the system will hold this name
for you for 90 days. It is then your responsibility to read
the report to determine the availability of the proposed
corporate name. The Medicine Hat
Licence Centre can have your search completed for you
in less than one hour.
The purpose of this search is to see if the name or any
similar names are currently registered with Alberta
Registries. It is not permitted by the Business Corporations
Act to register a name that is identical to one already
registered with Alberta Corporate Registry.
